Key Requirements for a UK Student Visa
1. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
To apply for a UK Student Visa, you need a valid CAS from a UK university or educational institution that is a licensed student sponsor. The CAS is a unique reference number issued by your university, detailing your course and duration.
2.Financial Requirements
You must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your studies, which includes tuition fees and living expenses.
- Tuition Fees: You need to show proof of sufficient funds to cover your first year of tuition.
- Living Costs:
- £1,334 per month for up to 9 months if studying in London.
- £1,023 per month for up to 9 months if studying outside London.
- Funds must be held for at least 28 consecutive days in a recognised bank account and must not be older than 31 days from the date of your visa application.
3. English Language Requirement
You need to prove your proficiency in English by passing an approved English language test such as IELTS for UKVI or by meeting the language criteria outlined by your university. Certain exemptions apply if you are from an English-speaking country or have completed a degree taught in English.
4. Tuberculosis (TB) Test
Students from certain countries must undergo a Tuberculosis test at a clinic approved by the UK Home Office. This is a mandatory requirement if you are applying to stay in the UK for more than six months.
5. Dependants (Updated for 2024)
Under the new immigration rules effective from 1 January 2024, only certain students can bring family members to the UK:
- Eligible to bring dependants:
- Students enrolled in postgraduate research programmes (e.g., PhD or other RQF Level 8 courses).
- Government-sponsored students pursuing courses longer than 6 months.
- Not eligible:
Students enrolled in taught master’s degrees or lower-level courses are no longer permitted to bring dependants, except under specific exemptions.

- Unmarried partner (in a relationship for at least two years)
- Child under 18 years oldIf you qualify to bring dependants, you must also demonstrate additional funds:
- £845 per month per dependant (for up to 9 months) if studying in London.
- £680 per month per dependant (for up to 9 months) if studying outside London.
